Senior Player Tributes

Thursday, July 23, 2015 10:01:09 AM America/Los_Angeles

To the parents of Senior PG Football Players,

Senior Spotlight:  All seniors will be spotlighted in the media guide for no charge.  That is something we do every year.  The seniors will do this after practice in the next couple of weeks with the coaches.  They fill out a questionnaire and their answers are printed next to their football picture in the media guide.

We are excited to offer Senior Players Tributes in this year’s Media Guides/Programs.

Senior Tribute:  This is optional.  This is a way to say "We love you ...Good Luck" along with a little league picture...or something to that degree.  They do this in the back of the year book.  This will cost $25.  You can put a fun picture of just your son or go in on it with another family if you have a group picture.  My vision is that it is football centered (little league pictures or something of that nature).  They will only be the size of a business card.  So 8 tributes per page.

If you would like to purchase a business card size spotlight ad, please complete the form and submit it to PGHS Finance Office byAugust 1st. We need all spotlight wording and photos received by August 3rd. Send your spotlight to pghsvikingclub@gmail.com.

Feel free to contact Andrea Clifford if you have questions either by email annieclifford@yahooo.com or text 801-318-8200.

Thank you,

The Fundraising Committee

College Recruiting Info

Tuesday, May 19, 2015 8:45:40 AM America/Los_Angeles

Football Parents,

My name is Dave Richards, and I was asked to help with  the scholarship committee, I guess I am the scholarship committee. Click here for a video I made last year on how to make a highlight film on HUDL. Your boys should know how to navigate through HUDL, and this video will help as well.

Here is an outline of a few things that need to be started on with your boys if you are interested in working towards a scholarship for football . This is a pretty extensive list, and I want you to know that I am here to help you work through the process and keep you pointed in the right direction.

  1. Keep the  main highlight film updated on HUDL.

Spend time after each week's game to update the main highlight film on HUDL. It is also a good idea to make a highlight film of each game played as well. (time commitment: 1 hour a week.) Keep the main highlight film short, 7 minutes or less. Start the highlight film with a list of stats. The first 5 clips on the highlight must be the best of the best, these will be the hook that will capture a coach's attention. Also keep a spreadsheet of each games stats for your boy. These stats can be obtained through HUDL, and the spreadsheet of stats will be helpful when putting together your main highlight film and for email correspondence with a coach.  Cliff Doman has put together a great highlight film for his boy using this outline, and he may be willing to show it as an example.

2. 5-5-5 colleges of interest.

Sit down with your boy and come up with a list of 5 dream schools he wants to attend. Then a list of 5 average or ok schools to attend. Then a list of 5 schools that may be the bottom of the list. Take into consideration the education goals, and possible career paths when choosing these schools. Cost of tuition may also be a consideration, as scholarship amounts are variable. I can help you get a list of who to email and contact for this list of 15 schools. Then you will need to email and market to these 15 schools.

3. Official ACT scores and official transcripts.

Obtain an official transcript and an official ACT score. Colleges will require these be sent to them when you are communicating back and forth. Also keep having your boys take the ACT as often as possible to get the highest score possible. This is crucial.

4. Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Go to the following site and follow the instructions and register your boy through this site. It is where the NCAA will ensure your boy has met the qualifications to be eligible to play NCAA ball and receive any scholarship awards.  The site is :

http://www.collegesportsscholarships.com/ncaa-eligibility-center.htm?gclid=CKfc2-_Dy8UCFQuMaQodm4UAvw

5. Make a spreadsheet of emails and contacts for all 15 colleges on your 5-5-5 list.

You will need to actively contact and market your boy after sophomore, before junior, and before senior year. Email letter with updated stats, awards, achievements, etc to the 15 colleges in the above letters. Before the start of Junior year, send out a short highlight film and email with the above information, to peak the interest of the coaches. After the football seasons 4th game, send a 2 minute highlight blurb to keep your boy on the coach’s radar. Ask Coach Hamilton to send an email and reference to the 15 college coach. Repeat this process before and during your boys senior year.

6. Attend Junior Football Camps

Every college has a junior camp during the summer. Try and send your boy to as many of these camps as possible. Prioritize the camps with who has shown interest, as well as your preferences. Your boy can attend these the summer before his Junior year if they had a great sophomore season, and before his Senior year. This may make your summer very busy and very expensive, so be realistic in your expectations. That being said, colleges will expect to see your boy at their camp if they plan on awarding any scholarships. Look on the athletic web page of the colleges to find the date and times of these camps. They usually have them posted between January and March to allow you time to plan for that summer.

A couple of other things to think about: This is a big time and money commitment on your part to start down this path for a scholarship. Most of your boys will not have this just fall into their laps. You will need to do a lot of leg work and marketing. There is a fine line of marketing your boy to a coach effectively and crossing the line to annoying the coaching staff. Coach Hamilton and Cliff Doman may have advice regarding this line.

Sit down with your boy and have an honest conversation regarding career and education goals, desire of playing, commitment level and finances. This will give you both a direction and a path to focus on. Be realistic and set expectations to match desire and realism.

You as a parent will need to stay on top of this whole process. It will need to be up to you to ensure all these steps are accomplished and emails and highlight films are updated and sent out. Let your boys focus on playing good football and having good grades. The grades and ACT scores will be what sets your boy apart from another with equal football talent. Awards and accomplishments will also set them apart from the pack.

I am here to help and give direction, or find out the direction from others. I do not have all the answers, but can try hard to find them. Let me help any way I can. If the parents want more information on this, and the consensus is needed, we will set up a parent meeting with myself, Cliff Doman, and possibly Coach Hamilton. So let me know if this is needed or this email and my one on one help will suffice.

Thanks

Dave Richards

Game 1 - PG over Alta!

Saturday, August 23, 2014 10:38:48 AM America/Los_Angeles

Football Rains Triumphant

Pleasant Grove started the season with a clap of thunder and proceeded in the second half to drench the Alta Hawks behind the passing of Christian Miller and the running of Hayden Pettis.  The fans were shocked at a reversal near the end of the first half with a holding call that took away a great pass and catch to bring the ball back sixty yards.  Alta rallied and took the lead at half time 7-0.  Thanks to a great coaching staff making course corrections and the attitude and spirit of the team, the second half was all PG with the final score PG 28-Alta 14.

The real story may be the unbelievable grit and spirit of our fans.  Led by Justin Hymas, the fans were hit with a mid-first half deluge and reacted by helping each other find support and courage to stay in the stands.  The cheer squad opened with grace and precision under skies that rained and rained.

We started the season with a win for both the players, fans, coaches, support staff, and the Cheer team.  Wet and sublimely happy, we made our way back to Utah County. On to California.

Thanks for all those hours of preparation and planning.
